But at least there's a higher likelihood that they can prevent Hakkai from killing Taiju whilst being able to do something about Taiju themselves, compared to Takemichi and Chifuyu trying to do so alone.

It was disturbing to see Taiju tell Hakkai he loves him after knocking him out, he's got some messed up way of showing "affection" if you can really call it that. I just hope he hasn't gone any further than DV with Yuzuha because that's one of my concerns.

It's mostly just Takemichi who is stuck in the mind of a preschooler and an occasional understanding for common sense. Pretty much everyone at the top is quite mature, which doesn't even surprise me considering how fucked up their childhoods are. Would be funny if it's because of all the beatings Takemichi has suffered, that his brain just can't perform at peak performance anymore.

They aren't more mature as a result of fucked up childhoods, they are just fucked up. They seem mature bc they were exposed to things a child shouldn't be, this caused their behavior to resemble maturity in certain areas bc normal kids just don't have any experience in those areas, however as a result their actual maturity will be permanently stunted and they'll never be able to live an entirely normal life. They were basically pushed onto a screwed up life trajectory from the get go, if they eventually try to turn it around they can approach normal but they'll always be playing a game of catch up to their peers, and if they don't then they'll have a head start on their peers and get to lows far lower than a normal person would consider possible.

Lots of assumptions here. They're more mature simply because they have more responsibilities than other kids (running the gangs, taking care of family, being exposed to harsh realities). That doesn't mean their maturity is permanently stunted or that they have to play catch up. Also, there are plenty of affiliates and inactive gang members who basically grew out of that or end up focusing on other priorities in life (family, relationships, careers).
